In today’s fast-paced and competitive job market, investing in your career progression is essential for long-term success and personal fulfillment. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to advance in your current role, a proactive approach to career development can significantly enhance your professional prospects. In this blog, we will explore how our cultural mindset can play an important role in our career trajectory and share actionable tips to help you invest wisely.
Every single individual holds a set of beliefs, assumptions, and cultural biases which are subtly weaved into their being, to the point of being nearly invisible. Unfortunately, these beliefs can often translate into barriers for Latinos in corporate America.
It is evident that Latinos in the U.S. understand the value of education: According to Pew Research, one in five Hispanics aged 25 and older had at least a bachelor’s degree in 2021, and “while this share was less than that of the overall U.S. population (38%), it was up from 13% of Hispanic adults in 2010.” (Pew Research, 2023). Regardless, Latinos continue to be nearly invisible in corporate leadership with relatively minimal career progression at all levels.
Research has shown there to be some historical and systemic limitations underlying this phenomenon. However, it is also important to note that many Latinos do not invest in their own growth, or otherwise “get stuck” due to self-imposed limitations hidden within.
After years of experience in assessments within talent lifecycle development, Career Management Partners CEO, Maryanne Piña-Frodsham identified a gap for Latino professionals, leading to years of research into the barriers consistently faced by Latinos within corporate America. To address this, she launched an extensive research project aimed specifically at advancing the Latino profession. Her vision was realized with the Latino Career Assessment™ (LCA™), the first validated assessment providing insights into the Latino career predictors for career success.
The LCA™ is a practical, self-guided, culturally aligned developmental experience for Latinos at any stage of their educational or career journey. It is a valuable tool to gain a better understanding of the areas of focus for each individual, providing high-definition career predictors and a personalized guide with actionable next steps.
The greatest return on investment (ROI) comes from investing in yourself. The median ROI from coaching and assessments is 221%, which translates to over 7 times the initial cost (2020 ICF Global Coaching Study). This is a call to action for any Latino wanting to progress in their career: Join the #LCA movement!
Investing in your career progression is a continuous process that requires dedication, self-reflection, and adaptability. By setting clear goals, embracing learning or networking opportunities, seeking mentorship, taking calculated risks, and developing essential skills, you can position yourself for long-term success regardless of the barriers placed in front of you.
